Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but National Trail Blazers Varsity fell to Union County 18-9 on Monday. The National Trail Blazers Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Union County, giving up 18 runs.
National Trail Blazers Varsity put up six runs in the fifth inning. The rally was led by an error on a ball put in play by Ben Browning and Cameron Harrison, a single by Isaac Arnold, and a double by Wyatt House.
Union County scored seven runs in the seventh inning. Union County’s big inning was driven by singles by Eric Burdine, Devyn Shepherd, and Alex VanWinkle, a triple by Mason Wicker, by Burdine, and a double by Jaden Bias.
Mason Hornung earned the win for Union County. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out nine. Nate Reffitt, VanWinkle, and Burdine all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
Michael Hollingsworth took the loss for National Trail Blazers Varsity. The righty surrendered six runs (5 earned) on eight hits over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
Burgan Hoffman, Harrison, Cody Webb, Arnold, House, and Clay Stiner each collected one hit to lead National Trail Blazers Varsity. Webb tallied 3 RBIs in the game on a bases clearing double. Ethan Murphy and Isaac Arnold drew two BB in their plate appearances on the night.
The Blazers will take the field again Tuesday night at FM for a league matchup.
