The National Trial Girls golf team lost their first match on a very windy day on Lakeland Golf Course. They came in second in the tri match with Miami East and Urbana. Miami East came in first just edging past the National Trial girls by a single stroke. Makenna Jones ended the day with a score of 40, followed by Makena Laird with a 48 (season personal best), Savannah Abner with a 52, and Allison Burbaker with a 57. The National Trail girls look to rebound Thursday as they take on the Tri-Village Patriots and Highland Lake Golf Course.

The National Trail High School Boys Varsity Golf team defeated Bradford High School 181-221 at Highland Lakes Golf Course on Tuesday to improve their record to 7-2 in matches this season. The Trailblazers were led by senior Logan Petitt who was medalist for the match shooting a 41. Senior Bryten Jones recorded the second best score for NT in the match by carding a 44 followed by senior Brian Harrison who shot a 47.

The Bradford Railroaders were led by Senior Alex Swabb who shot a 42 for the match.

National Trail’s next match is at home on Thursday versus Tri-Village at 4:00 PM.

National Trail was defeated in 4 sets by the visiting Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. NT lost momentum in the 2nd set and couldn’t recover. Lexi Stiner led the Lady Blazers with 5 Kills while Risa griffin was perfect from the service line with 26 attempts and 3 aces. Defensively Risa also led the team with 17 digs. The Blazers are now 1-6 overall and will travel to Franklin Monroe on Thursday.

Meet Recap

The National Trail Boys Varsity Golf Team placed 10th out of 19 teams at the Versailles Invitational on Saturday. National Trail had 4 golfers shoot sub-100 scores led by Senior Logan Petitt who shot a 91. Seniors Isaac Plankenhorn and Bryten Jones shot 92 and 97 respectively. Sophomore Dawson played well and carded a 98. The team continues to show improvement and consistency as our season begins to wind down. The Trailblazers next match is Tuesday at home (Highland Lakes GC) versus Bradford.

The Varsity football team lost a non conference road game to Preble Shawnee that began Friday evening and concluded Saturday morning. The Blazers could not get anything going offensively, and committed 10 penalties in the first half alone. Tyler Glander and Levi Norton both contributed 6 tackles defensively, and Glander added a sack from his NT spot.

This weekend the Junior High teams did well. The boys team finished 8th competing against 44 schools. Cameron Harrison came in first out of 292 runners with a time of 11:24. Caleb Van Winkle placed 13th with a time of 11:57. The girls team placed 11th competing against 36 schools. Molly Skinner finished 23rd and Lauren Sargeant placed 54th out of 236 runners.

Meet Recap

National Trail Cross Country teams traveled to Columbus Grove to compete against some tough competition. The high school boys, competing in the large school race, were able to place 6th out of 23 schools with a total of 141 points, 15 off of being 3rd in the race. The boys put in some good times for this early in the season. The team was led this week by Josh Bishop who ran a personal best time of 17:21 placed 18th out of 175 runners and was closely trailed by Adam Eyler 20th at a season best of 17:27. The Blazers had strong performances from Lane Unger 30th, Weston Haws 36th, Travis Hunt 37th, Peyton Harrison 46th, and Jesse Biser 60th. Runners who posted personal records were Josh Bishop, Travis Hunt, and Jack Weaver with a 23:58.
The high school girls also ran some fast times on the day with each girl posting season best while cutting 2 to 4 minutes off of their times from last week. Katie Buehner a personal record and Evan Byrd led the girls while placing 22nd in competing against 24 teams. JaLynn Byrd posted a strong time for her this early in the season with a 24:21.
The Blazers will look to build off of a strong weekend when they travel to Brookville on Saturday September 10th. This will also be a great opportunity for our 36 Elementary Program runners to compete against other kids the area.

The National Trail High School Boys Varsity Golf team defeated Bethel High School at Cliffside Golf Course on Thursday. The Trailblazers shot a season best score of 168 to Bethels 185. National Trail Senior, Logan Petitt shot his best score of the season carding a 37. He and Tyler Weinert of Bethel tied as medalist for the match. NT Senior Isaac Plankenhorn was second with a score of 39 followed by another NT Senior Bryten Jones who shot a 42. Blazers Head Golf Coach Kurt Bachman said that he is pleased with the progress this team has made during the season and the leadership of this years Seniors has been a significant factor in the success the team has had this year. National Trail went 2-1 this week in matches and now has an overall season record of 6-2. The Trailblazers will be playing this Saturday in the Versailles Invitational at the Stillwater Valley Golf Course.
