The National Trail Girls Golf team wrapped up the 2018 season when they competed at the OHSAA State Championships on Friday October 12 and Saturday October 13. The team of Senior Savanna Abner, Juniors Makenna Jones and Makena Laird, Sophomore Caitlin Gilland and Freshman Katelyn Hines shot a 2 day score 752 to finish in 9th Place. After shooting a team season-best 371 on Friday the girls came back on Saturday and carded a 381.
The girls had 2 goals when they traveled to Columbus, those were to finish in the top 10 and to best the score of the NT 2011 State Qualifying team, and they were able to accomplish both of those goals! The girls also were able to have an experience that many never get by competing at the State Championships, that they will have for a lifetime.
Individually, Makenna Jones, who was making her 3rd straight appearance at State shot a 76-83-159 to finish in 14th place. Savanna Abner went 98-96-194 for 46th place, Katelyn Hines shot 93-103-196 for 50th place. While Caitlin Gilland shot 104-100-204 and Makena Laird 107-102-209 for the Blazers.
This marked the end to a very good season for the Lady Blazers, who captured team championship awards at the National Trail Invite, the Covington Lady Bucc Invite, the Versailles Lady Tiger Invite, the Arcanum Lady Trojan Invite and 3rd Place at the Miami East Invite. The girls finished as Runner Up in the Cross County Conference and Captured the third Sectional Title in school history. The girls then earned the school’s first ever girls golf District Runner Up trophy, that gave them their trip to Columbus.
Congratulations Lady Blazers on a tremendous season!
